Chris Eubank Jnr and Conor Benn go head-to-head in one of the biggest fights of the year on April 26th, but why will the national anthem not be sung before the fight?

Why Is The National Anthem Not Being Sung Before Chris Eubank Jnr vs Conor Benn?

Boxing fans have become accustom to the national anthem of each fighter being sung before a major bout between two stars.

With this being an all-British bout, it was expected that ‘God Save The King’ would be sung before the fight on April 26th – but that will not be the case.

This is because the national anthem is only sung ahead of championship fights and despite its magnitude, there are no belts on the line for Eubank Jnr vs Conor Benn.

Alongside this, the Saudi Arabian national anthem has been sung ahead of some major fights in recent years including Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois.

This was met with mixed reviews, however, this will not be sung ahead of the Eubank Jnr vs Benn fight for the same reason despite it being Saudi-led.

What Is The History Between Eubank vs Benn?

As previously mentioned, this fight is one of the most anticipated match-ups in British fight history as Eubank Jnr and Benn look to defend their family name.

The fight has been amplified due to their fathers, as Chris Eubank Snr and Nigel Benn went to war on two separate occasions between 1990-91.

Chris Eubank Snr won the opening fight via stoppage and the second bout was deemed a draw, failing to live up to the excitement of fight one.

Now, their sons go into battle and both sets of fathers have been involved throughout the road to the fight – but in two completely opposite ways.

Chris Eubank Snr has been extremely critical of his son and the fight, calling Jnr a disgrace for smashing an egg on the side of Conor Benn’s face and will not be in his son’s corner.

As for Nigel Benn, his relationship with Conor is clearly important to the both of them and he will be in his son’s corner on fight day.
