Inter Milan will wear their third kit for this Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain – but there is a good reason for it.

This weekend sees the two top European club sides battle it out in Munich’s Allianz Arena to claim the ultimate prize.

Both Inter and PSG will be desperate to lift the trophy. With so much at stake, there are often superstitions about which kit a team chooses to wear.

Because of their position on the left-hand side of the bracket, PSG are the designated home team for the Champions League final.

This means that they will wear their traditional blue and red home kit, reflecting both the French flag and the colours of Paris.

Inter Milan are therefore not allowed to wear their own iconic blue and black striped home kit, as it would clash with PSG’s.

As a result, Inter have been left to choose between their other two kits. In a unanimous decision by the players, they have opted for their yellow and black third kit, rather than the white away kit they have worn more often this season.

Why Will Inter Milan Wear Their Third Kit For Champions League Final?

The reason nehind Inter wearing their third kit for the Champions League final is believed to be a superstitious one.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the squad decided to don the third kit as it’s been their ‘lucky’ strip this season.

Inter’s only defeat so far in their Champions League campaign came against Bayer Leverkusen.

During that league phase fixture, Inter wore their white away kit, and went on to lose 1-0 in on 10 December.

Contrastingly, they won both matches they have played while wearing the third kit in the Champions League.

Inter won 1-0 away at Sparta Prague, and 2-0 at Feyenoord while donning the yellow and black strip.

Inter Milan Stats Ahead Of Champions League Final

In their six previous UEFA Champions League finals, Inter have worn either their home or away kits.

However, they did wear a third kit in a998 as they beat Lazio 3-0 in Paris to claim the UEFA Cup (now Europa League).

In the top competition, Inter are three-time winners. The Nerazzurri lifted the European Cup/Champions League in 1963-64 and 1964-65.

This makes them one of only eight clubs to ever win back-to-back titles.

They then had to wait nearly 50 years before winning it again in 2009-10.

The side’s all-time top goalscorer in the competition is Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine striker has 21 Champions League goals for Inter, ahead of Adriano on 18.

Javier Zanetti is Inter’s all-time record appearance holder. He spent almost 20 years at the club from 1995-2014, playing 858 times. Ninety-seven of those were in the Champions League.

When Is The Champions League Final?

Saturday’s massive clash in Munich kicks off at 20:00 BST, or 21:00 local time.

The final is expected to be one of the most-watched sporting events of all time.

According to expert predictions, more than 450 million viewers will tune in to see PSG take on Inter.
