Manchester City did have the opportunity to finish a disappointing season on a high in next month’s FA Cup final against Crystal Palace – however, this ended in a 1-0 defeat to the Eagles – meaning City won’t win a trophy in 2024/25.

Therefore, the 2024-25 season is one to forget for the Sky Blues whose standards have fell dramatically, fighting to stay in the Champions League places with just a few games to go (65 points).

Pep Guardiola’s side were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in round four and exited the Champions League during the knockout stage.

Yes, City did win the Community Shield last August – but that isn’t recognised as a major trophy and for the purpose of this article, we’re not counting it as true silverware.

When was the last season Manchester City didn’t win a trophy?

The last season City walked away without a trophy was 2016-17 – the first year of Guardiola’s tenure.

They finished third in the league, lost in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, got knocked out in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and left the Champions League in the round of 16.

That was an incredible eight seasons ago. Since then, City won six of the next eight Premier League titles, collected four Carabao Cups in a row from 2017-2021, lifted two FA Cups and broke their duck in the Champions League.
