What Will Happen To Goodison Park? Everton Announce Plans For Old Ground

Everton are set to move into their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, but what will happen to Goodison Park once they do?
The Toffees are set to switch to their brand-new, 53,000-seat arena this summer.
With more than 130 years of history at their iconic old ground, many fans were fearful that all would be lost as plans were announced for Goodison Park to be demolished.
While the new stadium was being built, Everton’s previous owners unveiled plans for an £82 million development project to be built on the site of the old stadium.
This site would have included shops, housing and a retail park.
But in December, private equity firm The Friedkin Group purchased the club, and has now scrapped plans to demolish Goodison Park.
What Will Happen To Goodison Park?
Following their acquisition of the club, the new owners assessed the feasibility of maintaining Goodison Park as the home ground for Everton’s women.
They concluded that the 39,572-capacity ground was suitable, and it will now become the largest dedicated women’s stadium in England.

In a statement, Everton said: “This long-term vision reflects the club’s commitment to investing in the women’s game and ensuring that Goodison Park continues to play a vital role in both football and the community.
“The club’s regeneration plans will retain Goodison Park’s proud identity while giving Everton Women a world-class platform in the heart of Liverpool 4. For ers, it offers the chance to be part of a new era in one of football’s most iconic venues.”
Everton Women have played at Walton Hall Park since 2020. With a total capacity of 2,200, only 500 of which is seated, the move to Goodison will mark a significant upgrade in facilities.
The club is reportedly planning to improve the changing rooms, and rebrand the exterior of the stadium to reflect the women’s team taking up permanent residence.
When Was Goodison Park Built?
Opened on 24 August 1892, Goodison Park is one of the oldest football grounds in the country.
It has been home to Everton for 132 years, and has hosted more top-flight games than any other English stadium.
Its current capacity is just under 40,000, but the record attendance was roughly double that.
A whopping 78,299 were at Goodison for the Merseyside Derby in 1948.
Everton’s men will play their final ever game at Goddison Park on Sunday, when they host bottom club Southampton at 12:00 BST in the Premier League.
