Manchester United have lost 15 Premier League games in a single season for the first time since 1990 following Sunday’s defeat to Wolves at Old Trafford.

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira rolled the dice with 15 minutes to play in the form of a double substitution featuring Pablo Sarabia – who proved be the match-winner just moments later.

Christian Eriksen committed a needless foul on the edge of the area, putting it on a silver platter for Sarabia to place one exquisitely into the top corner out of the reach of an outstretched Andre Onana.

Sarabia is just the second ever visiting player to score a winning goal via a direct free-kick against United in the Premier League after Danny Murphy for Liverpool in 2000.

Wolves completed their first league double over United since the 1979-80 season as the Red Devils were brought back down to earth from Europa League quarter-final dramatics on Thursday.

The visitors recorded a fifth consecutive Premier League win – achieving the feat in the top-flight for the first time in 55 years – and moved level on points with United who were denied domestic victory for the fourth straight outing.

United have now lost eight Premier League home games this season, their most at Old Trafford in a single campaign since 1962-63.

They are also guaranteed to finish the year with their worst ever points total in a Premier League campaign.

Since arriving in Manchester, Ruben Amorim has won six, drawn five and lost 11 as the team continues to disappoint.

The club’s saving grace is their Europa League semi-final tie with Athletic Bilbao starting on Thursday, May 8 – but if they can’t secure European glory it will go down as one of the worst seasons in United history.

United will finish below bitter rivals Manchester City for the 12th consecutive season, failing to get one over the Sky Blues in every campaign since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
