Harry Wilson and Ethan Ampadu Make Injury Returns As Wales Announce June World Cup Qualifying Squad

Harry Wilson and Ethan Ampadu have returned to the Wales squad ahead of June’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying double header against Liechtenstein and Belgium.
Wilson and Ampadu Return In Wales Squad Announcement
Wales maintained their unbeaten start under Craig Bellamy with a win and a draw in their opening 2026 World Cup qualifying fixtures in March, defeating Kazakhstan 3-1 at home and drawing 1-1 with North Macedonia away.
The Dragons are now unbeaten in eight straight matches, having topped their Nations League group consisting of Turkiye, Montenegro and Iceland towards the back end of 2024, thus confirming their promotion to League A.
Up next, they welcome Group J bottom seeds Liechtenstein to the Cardiff City Stadium in World Cup qualifying before travelling to Brussels to take on top seeds Belgium at the King Baudouin Stadium.
Bellamy’s men are currently in second place in the group, level on points with leaders North Macedonia.
Returning to the Wales fold, as confirmed in Wednesday morning’s squad announcement, are key midfield duo Ethan Ampadu and Harry Wilson. Both players missed out on March’s camp due to injury.
Wilson was his country’s top goalscorer in their recent Nations League campaign, netting four goals across six matches, so the Red Wall will be delighted to have him back involved ahead of a crucial double header.
Meanwhile, there is a first-ever call-up for Cardiff City youth talent Ronan Kpakio. The 18-year-old right-back has made just one Championship start for the Bluebirds, who have now been relegated to League One.
Neco Williams, Connor Roberts, Ben Davies, Joe Rodon, Jordan James, David Brooks, Kieffer Moore, Brennan Johnson and Daniel James are also included in the squad, along with impressive youngsters Charlie Crew and Lewis Koumas.
Elsewhere, veteran midfielder Joe Allen, who came out of retirement last October, is not involved, as he has now officially retired from football, not only at international level but also at club level.
