Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has itted he is uncertain about his future at Anfield, with no breakthrough in contract negotiations.
The Dutch defender’s current deal expires in the summer, and he’s revealed that he has “no idea” whether he will remain at the club beyond this season.
Van Dijk Speaks Out on Contract Talks
Despite ongoing discussions with Liverpool’s hierarchy, Van Dijk remains in the dark about where he will play next season.
Speaking after the club’s Champions League exit against PSG, he dismissed any speculation regarding his future, stating, “I have no idea. I still have no idea at the moment. Genuinely. I have no idea at the moment.”
He added that anyone claiming to know the outcome of his contract talks is “lying to your face.”
With only ten games left in Liverpool’s campaign, Van Dijk insists his full focus is on securing two trophies – the Carabao Cup and the Premier League title.
PSG Links and Uncertain Future
Fuelling further speculation, Van Dijk was seen conversing with PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Luís Campos after Liverpool’s defeat to the French giants.
Given the financial muscle of PSG, links between the Dutch defender and the Ligue 1 side will only intensify.
Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in similar contractual situations, with their deals expiring at the end of the season.
While Alexander-Arnold looks poised to Real Madrid, Salah has remained ambiguous about his future.
Liverpool’s Final Push for Silverware
With uncertainty surrounding Van Dijk’s future, the Liverpool squad now turns its attention to Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.
The club also look set to reclaim the Premier League title, leading second-placed Arsenal by 15 points.
Van Dijk remains committed to delivering success for the club before any decision is made on his future.
“We don’t need any added motivation,” Van Dijk said. “We have ten games left and two big prizes to fight for. If you need extra motivation for that, you are in the wrong business.”
