‘The Biggest Disgrace’ – Football Twitter Mocks Vinicius Junior After Real Madrid Star’s Shocking Penalty Miss in UCL Clash With Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior missed a crucial penalty in the second leg of Los Blancos’ UEFA Champions League (UCL) Round of 16 clash with Atletico Madrid.
After suffering a 2-1 defeat in the UCL Round of 16 first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Atletico Madrid needed to be at their best in the return fixture at the Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday, 12 March.
Diego Simeone’s men got off to a dream start, with Conor Gallagher levelling the tie on aggregate (2-2) inside the first 30 seconds. Real Madrid could have gone further behind by the half-time whistle had Thibaut Courtois not been at his imperious best.
In the 69th minute, Kylian Mbappe won a penalty for Los Blancos, and Vinicius Junior stepped up to take it. The away fans were hopeful, but Vinicius’ penalty came as a massive disappointment, as the Brazilian skied his effort well over the crossbar. He attempted to side-foot the penalty into the top-right corner, but got under the ball, sending it way back into the stands.
Vinicius’ penalty miss fortunately did not hurt Real Madrid, as they managed to beat Los Rojiblancos 4-2 on penalties. However, football fans are unlikely to let Vinicius Junior forget the howler any time soon.

Twitter Erupts After Real Madrid Star Vinicius’ Penalty Miss Against Atletico Madrid
@EiFSoccer called it a disgraceful performance from the Real Madrid No. 7.
The biggest disgrace from the whole entire game was Vinicius Jr.
Was pathetically poor the entire night. He misses the pen that would have avoided extra time and pens.
He had to be subbed off before a PK shootout. He didn’t show up on the biggest stage.
Not his team anymore.

Some, quite understandably questioned why Vinicius took the penalty when Mbappe — who scored three penalties in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final alone — was available.
Why did Vinicius take the penalty and not Mbappé? pic.twitter.com/2TGMDFnnpT

You have a player in your team who scored three penalties in a World Cup final but Vinícius is your first penalty taker what a joke.

Mbappe’s scored 3 pens in a single wc final and Vinicius thought he should be the one taking it 😭😭

While most were focused on Vinicius’ penalty, some noted how Jude Bellingham consoled him immediately after the miss.

From mocking him for tweeting more than scoring to comparing him to Manchester United outcast Antony, Twitter had a lot to say.

Vinicius failed to complete 11 of his 14 attempted dribbles against Atletico today. No player ever failed more dribbles in a single UCL game since data is available. pic.twitter.com/hKBOgRtjfe
