Rasmus Hojlund comes to Manchester United‘s rescue as second half substitute comes off the bench to score a brace and earn the Red Devils their first away win of the 2024/25 Europa League campaign.

Just three minutes into the second half and United head coach Ruben Amorim had his head in his hands, as Plzen broke the deadlock to send the home fans into raptures. Former Premier League and Championship talisman Matej Vydra was on target to give the hosts the lead in the 48th minute.

It didn’t take long for Amorim to make changes after that, with Mason Mount all coming on early in the second half. It was one of those substitutes who brought the visitors level, as Hojlund made an instant impact to score for the second successive game.

Just as it looked like both sides were going to have to settle for a point, Hojlund broke Viktoria Plzen hearts as he got on the end of Bruno Fernandes’ clever free-kick, to control and fire past the goalkeeper to secure all three points for the Red Devils.

That win means Manchester United move into the top-eight of the Europa League standings, not to mention picking up their first win of the season on their travels in Europe. Now attentions turn to the Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon at the Etihad.
