Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace have all won silverware in 2025, ending lengthy trophy droughts in the process.

Trophy Droughts Ended In 2025

Newcastle United (Carabao Cup) – 70 Years

Eddie Howe led Newcastle to their first major trophy in 70 years in March, defeating recently crowned Premier League champions Liverpool 2-1 in the 2025 Carabao Cup final courtesy of goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.

The Magpies defeated the likes of Nottingham Forest, AFC Wimbledon, Chelsea, Brentford and Arsenal on their way to the final before securing their first-ever League Cup title at Wembley Stadium.

They were also finalists in 2022-23 but finished as runners-up after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Prior to this year’s trophy triumph, the Tyneside club’s last piece of silverware came during the 1954-55 season, when they won the FA Cup for the sixth time in their history by beating Manchester City 3-1 in the final.

Harry Kane (Bundesliga) – First Career Trophy

Much has been said about the lack of silverware Harry Kane has won throughout his career, but the England captain finally got his hands on a trophy this season, winning the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.

The 31-year-old maintained his excellent goalscoring record for the Bavarians this term, netting 26 goals in the league and 38 across all competitions, as his side finished 13 points clear at the top of the table.

He was also named Bundesliga Player of the Season.

In of other competitions, Bayern suffered a round of 16 exit from the DFB-Pokal and lost out in the Champions League quarter-finals, and they still have the Club World Cup to take part in over the summer.

By winning the German top-flight, Kane ended close to a 16-year wait in senior football for his first major honour.

He has come close to winning trophies in the past, having suffered agonising defeats in two Carabao Cup finals and a Champions League final for Tottenham, as well as two European Championship finals with England.

Tottenham Hotspur (Europa League) – 17 Years

Spurs finally ended their lengthy wait for a major trophy on Wednesday evening. Brennan Johnson netted the sole goal as they defeated Manchester United 1-0 at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao to win the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou made clear earlier in the campaign that he doesn’t ‘usually’ win things in his second season but that he ‘always’ wins things in his second season, and boy did he deliver on that promise.

It ends a 17-year wait for silverware for the North Londoners, having last won the Carabao Cup in 2008.

During that time, Tottenham have reached a total of five cup finals across all competitions, losing four in succession in the League Cup and Champions League before Postecoglou and his men brought that run to an end in the Basque Country.

Unsurprisingly, with fans wanting to celebrate the triumph with the players, Tottenham confirmed they will have a trophy parade upon their return to the United Kingdom later in the week.

Go Ahead Eagles (KNVB Cup) – 91 Years

Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles defied the odds to win the KNVB Cup in April, overcoming AZ Alkmaar on penalties in the final, ending a 91-year wait for a major trophy in doing so.

The Deventer-based outfit trailed in the final for the majority of the second half, with Irishman Troy Parrott putting AZ in front from the spot, but they responded with a penalty of their own through Mats Deijl nine minutes into injury time.

After a goalless period in extra-time, a penalty shootout was required to decide the winner. Paul Simons’ men kept their cool to win 4-2 without missing a single spot-kick, thus confirming their place in next year’s Europa League.

Their most recent major title prior to their cup triumph came in 1932-33, when they won the Dutch top-flight.

Bologna (Coppa Italia) – 51 Years

By beating A.C. Milan 1-0 in the Coppa Italia final earlier in the month, Bologna ended a 51-year wait for a trophy.

I Rossoblù have enjoyed a strong few seasons in Italy, having qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 1965 last season, but they’ve gone one better this term by claiming a piece of silverware.

Vincenzo Italiano’s side beat Monza, Atalanta and Empoli on their way to the final, and their position in next year’s Europa League league phase has now been confirmed thanks to the title triumph.

Dan Ndoye scored the all-important goal in the final, ensuring his club’s third Coppa Italia title and their first since the 1973-74 season.

Crystal Palace (FA Cup) – First Major Trophy

Eberechi Eze was the hero for Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, as the Eagles overcame seven-time champions Manchester City 1-0 to secure their first-ever major honour at Wembley Stadium.

The South Londoners have won several regional and lower league titles since their formation in 1905, almost 120 years ago, but they had never won a major trophy prior to their FA Cup success.

Their road to the final included wins over Stockport County, Doncaster Rovers, Millwall and impressively comfortable 3-0 victories over fellow Premier League sides Fulham and Aston Villa in the quarter and semi-finals.

With the win, the club have qualified for Europe for the first time in their history, and they’ll take part in next season’s edition of the Europa League, entering the competition in the league phase.

Fans will be able to celebrate the triumph with the players at the Crystal Palace FA Cup victory parade next week.
