Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Everton.

Trent Alexander-Arnold Injury Update Ahead of Everton Clash

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has returned to training, but manager Arne Slot remains uncertain about his availability for the Merseyside derby against Everton on Wednesday.

The England international has been sidelined with a thigh injury, forcing him to miss the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham and the shocking FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle.

While the injury is not considered severe, Slot is cautious about rushing the 26-year-old back into action.

“Trent has done part of a training session with us yesterday, so let’s see how he is today,” Slot said during his Tuesday morning press conference.

“He will train hopefully with us again today, and then we will decide if we take him to the game.”

Defensive Concerns for Liverpool

Liverpool’s defensive options are already stretched, with Joe Gomez suffering a recurrence of a previous injury during the FA Cup loss to Plymouth. Slot confirmed that the defender will be unavailable for the derby.

“Joe, it’s the same leg again where he had the injury last time, so we are still assessing that, but he will definitely not be available tomorrow,” Slot explained. “It is a concern.”

Liverpool Squad Boost for Merseyside Derby

Despite injury concerns, Liverpool will have several key players returning to action for Wedensday’s Merseyside Derby.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Ibrahima Konate, and Andy Robertson were rested for the FA Cup fixture and are expected to feature in the derby.

Arne Slot Reflects on FA Cup Defeat to Plymouth

Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle was a shock result, but Slot refused to look at any silver linings despite a now less congested fixture schedule.

“There was a wise man that once said to me, nothing good comes from losing a football game, and I completely agree,” Slot said.

“We would definitely have prepared to play six games in 18 days or seven in 21 or eight in 24 because that’s the schedule we are in.

“Now, with us losing this game, there is one moment that we have a normal week, but that is definitely not what we wanted when we went to Plymouth.”

The manager also highlighted the injury and illness struggles faced by the squad at Home Park. “It was difficult because the plan was to play with Joe [Gomez] for 60 minutes or longer.

“The plan was to start Curtis [Jones], but he came on Sunday and said he didn’t feel well enough to play, so then all of a sudden we missed two important players.

“I think people know Darwin [Nunez’s] situation, that he became a dad one or two days before the game and that happened in Spain, so he came in a bit later.”

However, Slot insists the squad should still have secured a victory against Plymouth.

“The idea was to play with an even stronger team, but that team still should have been able to win that game.

“The fact that we didn’t and the fact that we didn’t against PSV as well tells us that these players definitely need these games to get the best out of them.”

Will Alexander-Arnold Be Fit for the Merseyside Derby?

With Trent’s fitness still in question, Liverpool fans will be eagerly awaiting a final decision ahead of their crucial clash against Everton.

Slot’s cautious approach suggests that the defender’s involvement will depend on how he responds in training over the next 24 hours.

Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from their FA Cup disappointment and continue their incredible run in the Premier League – with or without their star right-back on the pitch.
