Ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg, we have the Tottenham vs Liverpool preview, prediction, latest team news and confirmed lineups.

Tottenham Vs Liverpool Preview

After their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou will be desperate for a positive result in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg.

Goals from Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak wiped out Dominic Solanke’s opener in the Premier League fixture on January 4.

Postecoglou has only tasted victory once in his last five games across all competitions. Ironically, that solitary win came against Manchester United in the quarter-final last month.

The Aussie’s future is considered safe for now. However, another poor home performance will surely see the rumours of his exit quickly resurface.

Wednesday’s fixture couldn’t be any tougher for Postecoglou. The Premier League leaders are flying high but their lacklustre 2-2 draw with United does offer hope of a minor upset.

Liverpool will want a repeat of their last visit to the white half of north London. Arne Slot’s side won a bonkers encounter 6-3 on December 22.

Luis Diaz and Mo Salah hit a brace each with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai also getting on the scoresheet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Reds will also want to get back to winning ways after their stalemate with the Red Devils on Sunday. Lisandro Martinez fired Ruben Amorim’s side into a surprise lead before Salah and Cody Gakpo hit back.

Amad Diallo levelled late on and Harry Maguire almost won it for Amorim’s men. Nonetheless, the Merseysiders have the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

Ahead of the match, the best football betting sites in the UK make Slot’s side the 13/20 favourites. Spurs can be backed at 4/1 with the draw available at 15/4.

Tottenham Vs Liverpool Team News

The last trophy Tottenham lifted was the League Cup in 2008 and they’ll need a miracle to do so again this year. Ange Postecoglou will potentially be without his entire defence.

Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray had been struggling through illness but both will start. That is because Destiny Udogie ed Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies are already out.

James Maddison is suspended and Richarlison, Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert are also out injured. Rodrigo Bentancur is available after his ban and new goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky will make his debut.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will be without Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate. The game has come too soon for the latter to feature. Dominik Szoboszlai should be fit to start after recovering from illness.

Youngsters Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott are primed for more valuable minutes. Conor Bradley is also set to start after his injury layoff in place of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk both start for the visitors. These will be the Dutchman’s first minutes in the competition this season.

Tottenham Vs Liverpool Confirmed Lineups

Tottenham (4-3-3): Kinsky; Pedro Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bergvall, Bentancur, Kulusevski; Son, Solanke, Werner

Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson, Bradley, Van Dijk, Quansah, Tsimikas, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones, Gakpo, Jota, Salah

Tottenham Vs Liverpool Prediction

In theory, Liverpool should win quite comfortably but we are predicting it to be a tighter goal-glut than December’s Premier League extravaganza.

Tottenham’s depleted defence is a huge cause for concern from Ange Postecoglou’s perspective. However, with Arne Slot set to rest some of his stars it’ll make for an intriguing encounter.

Games in north London in recent weeks have guaranteed goals and tonight should be no different. We fancy the Merseysiders to edge a five-goal thriller.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-3 Liverpool
