Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi will reportedly excuse Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, and Lautaro Martinez from the starting XI for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash with Dutch side Feyenoord.

Serie A aspirants Inter will face Feyenoord in the UCL Ro16 second leg at San Siro on Tuesday night, 11 March. Inzaghi’s men claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Robin van Persie’s Feyenoord in the first leg, and they are the overwhelming favourites to book their place in the quarter-finals. Marcus Thuram (38′) and Martinez (50′) were the goalscorers for the visiting team last week.

Inter Milan To Rest Key Players in UCL Round of 16 2nd Leg Against Feyenoord

Like every other competing team, Inter are keen on winning the Champions League this season. However, knowing the fickle nature of the competition, the Nerazzurri are not putting all their eggs in the European basket.

The reigning Italian champions, who are aiming to win their 21st league title this season, are battling it out with Napoli at the top of the Serie A rankings. After 28 rounds of fixtures, Inter have a slender one-point lead over the Partenopei. So, there is no margin for error leading into the last 10 games of the season.

According to Milan-based Gazzetta dello Sport (via FC Inter News), Inzaghi is thinking beyond the Champions League and is ready to rest three of his key players in the clash against Feyenoord.

Barella, Bastoni, and Martinez have been crucial for Inter this season, chipping in with important performances to ensure favourable results. With the trip to Atalanta — who beat Juventus in their previous game — just five days away, Inzaghi does not want to risk them in the UCL 2nd leg. The coach wants to field his strongest XI against Atalanta, knowing a win would put them in an advantageous position in the title race.

With Barella and Martinez making way, Davide Frattesi and Mehdi Taremi will reportedly start in their place. In Bastoni’s absence, Carlos Augusto could start on the left. Without three of their best players, Inter could take a cautious approach on Tuesday, ensuring there are no surprises in store.
