Rory McIlroy will be part of a PGA Tour ‘Supergroup’ at the Players Championship after tee times for the first two rounds at TPC Sawgrass were announced.
Players Championship Tee Times: McIlroy To Play Alongside Scheffler And Schauffele
The strongest field of the year to date will gather this week for the Players Championship which has regularly been described as golf’s fifth major.
Scottie Scheffler is looking to make it three in a row at the tournament after last year he became the first to successfully defend his title.
The American will play alongside Rory McIlroy over the first two rounds at the prestigious tournament in Florida this week.
They will be ed by Xander Schauffele who recently returned from a rib injury at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Schauffele is a two-time runner-up of the Players while McIlroy won the championship back in 2019.
The trio will be among the strong contenders to take home the $4.5m in prize money on offer to the winner of the Players Championship.
They will go out at 1.29pm (5.29pm UK time) on Thursday before starting on the 10th hole at 8.24am (12.24pm) in the second round.
Another group to be heavily featured is that of Ludvig Aberg, Hideki Matsuyama and Justin Thomas.
The top 65 and any ties through 36 holes will qualify for the final two rounds with the winner to be determined on Sunday, March 16.
