Temple Stakes Runners and Trends As Trainer Clive Cox Eyes Fourth Win Haydock Since 2016

The Group Two Temple Stakes at Haydock Park is one of the big horse racing highlights this weekend – a race trainer Clive Cox has farmed in recent years, by winning the prize three times since 2016. With that in mind, we look at the Temple Stakes runners for 2025, plus highlight the key trends and stats to apply to the final entries.
Clive Cox Has Won The Temple Stakes Three Times Since 2016, Including Last Year (2024)
No trainer has won the Temple Stakes more times in recent times than Clive Cox.
The Newmarket horse racing handler has been responsible for three of the Haydock Park winners since 2016 – and was at it again 12 months ago when Kerdos landed the prize.
His other Temple Stakes wins came in 2016 with Profitable and 2017 with Priceless.
Therefore, all eyes will be on his sole runner in the race this Saturday – JASOUR.
Jasour will be back after 251 days off – having last been seen running well down the field (15th) in the G1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh.
But he has a fair record fresh – winning first time out last May, when taking the Group Three Commonwealth Trial Stakes at Ascot (watch below). While he also won the Group Two July Stakes in 2023 at Newmarket so has proven winning form at this level.
Temple Stakes Runners 2025: Night Raider Heads The Entries
Trainer Karl Burke won the Temple Stakes in 2023, and he looks to have a big chance of adding to that in 2025 with Night Raider.
This son of Dark Angel has won 50% of his eight career starts and is expected to have improved for his return run at York, when a fair fourth to the classy Inisherin in the Group Two Duke Of York Clipper Stakes (watch below).

- 10 of the last 15 winners came from stalls 6 or lower
- Just 3 of the last 20 winners aged 3
The Temple Stakes Has Been A Good Race For Favourites
In the last 22 runnings, the favourites have fared well in the Temple Stakes too, with 41% (nine) winning.
These include four of the last six market leaders winning (67%) – but last year’s t-jollies Asfoora and Beautiful Diamond were both unplaced.
A lot can still change between now and the race on Saturday, but the best horse racing betting sites are making Night Raider and Rumstar favourite contenders.
Look For Temple Stakes Horses Drawn 6 Or Lower
Another key Temple Stakes trend to note is the draw.
We’ll know the stalls of the runners on Thursday – but when they do come out look out for horses drawn 6 or lower.
This is because 10 of the last 15 winners hailed from gates 6 or lower – while it could pay to note four of the last seven winners (57%) came from stalls 2 or 6.
