Brilliant Blues Brush Southampton Aside With Five Goal Thrashing At St Mary’s

It took just seven minutes for the deadlock to be broken at St Mary’s, with Axel Disasi heading home an Enzo Fernandez corner to give the visitors an early lead.

The Blues weren’t ahead for long though, with the home side showing some fight and hitting back just four minutes later. Joe Aribo was the man to make it 101, after being set up magnificently by Kyle Walker-Peters inside the box.

Just six minutes after Southampton equalised, they found themselves behind for the second time. This time it was Christopher Nkunku who restored Chelsea’s lead, ing into an empty net in the 17th minute.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts 10 minutes before the break, as Enzo Maresca’s side scored a third. This time it was the in-form Noni Madueke who cut in superbly from the right-hand side, before firing into the far corner with his left foot to give the Blues a two goal cushion.

Saints were reduced to 10-men five minutes before the break, with Jack Stephens being sent for an early shower for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair.

Into the second half and Chelsea found their fourth in the 77th minute through their star man Cole Palmer. No wonder the visitors were odds on with the best football betting sites in the UK, putting on a clinic on their travels to St Mary’s.

Substitute Jadon Sancho put the icing on the case for the visitors, netting Chelsea’s fifth just three minutes from time.

Chelsea’s emphatic 5-1 victory sees them leapfrog Arsenal into second in the Premier League on goal difference, meanwhile Southampton remain bottom seven points from safety already.
