Scottie Scheffler withstood the challenge of a resurgent Jon Rahm to win his maiden US PGA Championship title by five strokes.

World number one Scottie Scheffler, 28, went into the final round three shots clear at the top of the leaderboard, and five ahead of Spaniard Rahm.

But a poor front nine from Scheffler and a series of birdies from Rahm meant they were tied for the lead heading into the last nine holes.

Rahm then fell apart on the final three holes, allowing Scheffler to add a third major title to his list of career achievements.

An emotional Scheffler was tearful at the 18th hole as the magnitude of his victory was apparent to everyone.

Speaking ahead of the trophy presentation, he said: “I knew it was going to be a challenging day.

“Finishing off a major championship is always difficult and I did a good job of staying patient on the front nine.

“I didn’t play my best stuff but I kept myself in it, stepped up on the back nine and had a good nine holes.”

With Rahm slipping up in the closing stages, he fell to a shared eighth-placed finish. Bryson DeChambeau finished a t second alongside David Riley and Harris English.

Playing in his first major since winning the Masters in April, Rory McIlroy shot three over par to finish tied in 47th.

Scheffler built a commanding lead heading into the final round of this year’s tournament.

But despite holding the 54-hole lead, his route to victory was far from routine until the very last holes.

A bogey on the first gave rivals the chance to reduce the gap, but Scheffler was still five clear through the first four.

It was on the sixth and ninth, though, where the world number one looked to be faltering.

Two further bogeys coincided with the charging Jon Rahm sinking several birdies to level the score after nine.

But Scheffler regained his composure and kept the back nine neat and tidy, despite not playing his best golf, to hold on for the win.

With Rahm collapsing on the last three holes, Scheffler was able to close out the victory with his wife and young son watching on the 18th green.

How Many Majors Has Scottie Scheffler Won?

Scottie Scheffler has now held the world number one ranking for a total of 137 weeks, 103 of those consecutively.

His first major championship win was the 2022 Masters, a tournament he won for the second time in 2022.

Scheffler also won The Players Championship in 2023 and 2024, becoming the first to win back-to-back tournaments.

He won a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics, and has now added a third major title to his already impressive resume with this 2025 US PGA Championship victory.
