Ruben Amorim has provided a stern update regarding the absence of both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho against Manchester City.

The Portuguese gaffer secured his first Premier League Manchester Derby win at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon. Josko Gvardiol gave the crestfallen champions a first-half lead.

Heading into the dying embers of the game, Manchester United secured a famous victory thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.

However, many Red Devils ers were curious to know why Rashford and Garnacho were both missing from the matchday squad.

On Monday, Amorim provided an update and strongly insisted that the duos absence was nothing at all to do with ill-discipline. As many would have previously suspected.

Ruben Amorim On Marcus Rashford And Alejandro Garnacho

Finish one game, start a new week. New week is new life, if they train well they will compete for a place in the team. They are playing because they are talented, we need Rashford and Garnacho in our team,” Amorim said.

Next week, they can be back…if they train well like the others. It’s not the same for everyone. They will play or be on the bench. It was not a disciplinary thing. We have to improve out standards inside and outside the pitch.

It’s not a disciplinary thing, it’s just the performances in training, the performance in games and then I’ve to choose players. It’s as simple as that.”

Since Amorim’s first game in charge against Ipswich Town, Rashford had featured in every game and netted three times. Garnacho had also played a part in every game and has gotten on the scoresheet once.

Only time will tell of the attacking pair are included in the matchday squad against Tottenham in the EFL Cup quarter-final on Thursday.
