Rory McIlroy has changed his tune about LIV Golf after years of slamming the breakaway tour, now itting that it is good for the sport and beneficial for everyone.

Rory McIlroy Makes Shocking LIV Golf ission

It’s fair to say that Rory McIlroy has been an unofficial spokesperson for the PGA Tour over the past few years. Ever since LIV Golf kickstarted in June 2022, McIlroy has been on the opposite side of the fence, slamming the breakaway Saudi-backed golf league.

During this time, Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia and plenty more stellar players following suit.

Tom McKibbon.

Ever since the beginning, McIlroy has been ‘Team PGA Tour’ and acted as somewhat of a spokesperson. As one of the leading players in world golf, McIlroy is seen as a shining light and leader by example for the PGA Tour.

The Northern Irishman remains at the forefront of the PGA Tour, but has since majorly changed his tune about LIV Golf.

In an interview ahead of the 2025 Genesis Invitational, McIlroy has made a total U-turn and has made a shocking LIV Golf ission. The 35-year-old has now stated that LIV Golf has actually benefitted the sport of golf for a whole host of reasons.

One of these reasons is the inflated purses and elevated events now on the PGA Tour, trying to keep up with the money being splashed about at the Saudi-funded LIV Golf league.

McIlroy: ‘Everyone’s Just Got To Get Over It’

This week, Tiger Woods-hosted event.

The Genesis Invitational prize money and purse payout is now $20 million, and McIlroy has itted that the addition funds up for PGA Tour players to win is thanks to LIV Golf.

“Whether you stayed on the PGA Tour or you left, we have all benefitted from this. We’re playing for a $20 million prize fund this week. That would never have happened if LIV hadn’t have come around,” McIlroy itted.

Despite slamming LIV Golf ever since its emergence in professional golf, McIlroy is now iring it somewhat.

The Northern Irishman remains a top PGA Tour player alongside the likes of Xander Schauffele, but is under no illusions that he has LIV to thank for some of the benefits he is now receiving on the PGA Tour.

“I think everyone’s just got to get over it and we all have to say this is the starting point and we move forward. We don’t look behind us, we don’t look to the past.

“Whatever has happened has happened and it’s been unfortunate, but reunification, how we all come back together and move forward – that’s the best thing for everyone,” McIlroy concluded.

McIlroy heads to Torrey Pines this week as the second favourite behind Scottie Scheffler to win the coveted best golf betting sites.
