Barcelona are set to be without star striker Robert Lewandowski for at least three weeks following an injury suffered in Saturday’s win over Celta Vigo.

Robert Lewandowski injury update: Out for at least three weeks

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick confirmed the Pole would undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury he suffered against Celta Vigo.

Lewandowski was forced off after 78 minutes with a suspected hamstring problem – not the news Barca ers wanted to hear ahead of next week’s Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.

Flick said: “He will have an MRI tomorrow. We have to wait for the results, then we’ll know more about his injury.”

Local media later reported there is pessimism in the Barcelona dressing room regarding the injury, with the overwhelming feeling that he has suffered a hamstring tear.

It has since been confirmed by Barcelona that Lewandowski suffered a left semitendinosus injury – a fancy term for a pulled hamstring – and will be out for at least three weeks.

Barcelona are also the favourites to lift the Champions League and their semi-final tie with Inter begins in 11 days on Wednesday, April 30 with Lewandowski now ruled out.

The Catalan outfit pulled seven points clear at the top of LaLiga following Saturday’s dramatic win, coming back from 3-1 down culminating in a 98th-minute winner by Raphinha from the penalty spot.

Lewandowski leads the league in goals scored (25) this season and has netted 40 times in 48 appearances in all competitions.

He is one away from hitting a century of career goals for the club.

Robert Lewandowski injury history 2024-25

  • Torn muscle fiber – 11 days, June 11-21, 2024
  • Lumbar vertebra problems – 11 days, November 10-20, 2024

Previously, Lewandowski has found himself on the sidelines just twice this season – first suffering a torn muscle fiber during pre-season.

He then briefly battled a back issue in November but at the age of 36, this can be considered fairly minimal and he’s done a good job of looking after his body.

What games will Robert Lewandowski miss with injury?

  • vs Mallorca (LaLiga) – Tuesday, April 22
  • vs Real Madrid (Copa del Rey final) – Saturday, April 26
  • vs Inter (Champions League semi-final first leg) – Wednesday, April 30
  • @ Real Valladolid (LaLiga) – Saturday, May 3
  • @ Inter (Champions League semi-final second leg) – Tuesday, May 6

Following the news Lewandowski will miss at least three weeks, that rules him out of a number of key games for Barcelona.

They include next weekend’s Copa del Rey final against bitter rivals Real Madrid and both legs of the Champions League semi-final tie with Inter.

If his recovery goes to plan, Lewandowski could return in El Clasico against Madrid in LaLiga on Sunday, May 11.
