Fans of rival Premier League clubs have been hijacking a vote in an attempt to see Trent Alexander-Arnold named Liverpool Player of the Season. 

In a move that will either be seen as innocent banter or crude mockery, depending on who you , Liverpool’s Player of the Season fan vote is being hijacked by rival ers.

The club posted a link on social media, which allows fans to vote for their choice of Liverpool’s best player this season.

But with no way of ing that voters are Liverpool fans, those ing rival clubs have been rushing to vote for departing fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Why Are Rival Fans Voting Trent Alexander-Arnold As Liverpool Player Of The Season?

Twenty-six-year-old England international Trent Alexander-Arnold has made global headlines thanks to his much-publicised move to Real Madrid.

The boyhood Liverpool fan and Anfield academy graduate is ing the Spanish giants at the end of the season.

But some Reds fans are less than pleased with the manner of his departure.

This is due to Alexander-Arnold running down his contract and leaving the club as a free agent, meaning Liverpool will not receive any transfer fee for letting him go.

Others have criticised the attitude shown by the defender in the build-up to and aftermath of his move being announced.

Such has been the backlash against him that a large number of Liverpool fans have booed the player during recent games.

And it’s this animosity that has led rival fans to try and make sure Trent Alexander-Arnold wins the Liverpool Player of the Season vote.

One fan on Twitter (now X) joked: “Voted [for Alexander-Arnold] already. It’s a shame I can’t vote multiple times!”

Another added: “Evil genius, I love it.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold Contract At Real Madrid Worth £7.5m Per Year

Upon ing up with his new club, Trent Alexander-Arnold will a short, but growing list of British footballers who have played for Real Madrid.

He has reportedly signed a five-year deal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, it is not yet clear whether he will link up with Los Blancos in time for the revamped Club World Cup, which starts on 14 June.

While Liverpool are not entitled to a transfer fee due to the defender’s contract expiring, Real Madrid may offer to pay some compensation to the Reds in order to secure an earlier release for the player.

According to reports, Alexander-Arnold will earn a massive £7.5 million per year after tax in Madrid.

While a huge sum, this does not put him on par with Real’s top earners, such as Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe.

But it is still significantly more than he earned at Liverpool, where he is reported to have been on around £180,000 per week.

Who Will Replace Trent Alexander-Arnold At Liverpool?

With Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure confirmed, there are a number of options to replace him.

Chief among those is Northern Irish fullback, Conor Bradley.

The 21-year-old already captains the Northern Ireland team, despite his young age, and has been understudy to Alexander-Arnold for some time.

Having ed Liverpool as a youth player in 2019, he is another academy graduate who has waited patiently for his opportunity.

Conor Bradley will hope to step into Trent Alexander-Arnold’s shoes next season.

However, it is widely reported that Liverpool manager Arne Slot wishes to add depth and strengthen at right-back.

The Times recently reported that Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is one of the players that Liverpool could sign to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 24-year-old Dutch international is said to be the “leading candidate”, with Liverpool keen to get a deal done.

Since making his senior debut for Liverpool as a teenager in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has amassed more than 350 appearances.

He has scored 23 goals and provided 92 assists. His final Liverpool game, if he features, will be against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday.
