Chelsea captain Reece James faces an uncertain timeline for his return after suffering a fresh hamstring injury setback.

Manager Enzo Maresca revealed in a recent press conference that the right-back, who has been plagued by recurring injuries, will miss Chelsea’s fixtures, including their Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

Reece James’ Injury History Continues to Frustrate Chelsea Fans

James, an important figure in Chelsea’s defensive lineup when fit, has struggled with persistent injuries.

The England international had just returned from a hamstring problem that kept him sidelined at the start of the season but now faces yet another spell on the sidelines.

Since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, James has made just 30 Premier League appearances.

Despite being a cornerstone of Chelsea’s defensive strategy, his repeated setbacks have raised questions about his long-term reliability.

Adding to the speculation, rumours have emerged suggesting Chelsea might be open to transferring the 24-year-old if his injury issues persist.

Maresca Provides Reece James Injury Update

In addressing James’ condition, Maresca said:

“Yes [he’s had a scan]. The only thing we can say is that he is getting better day by day. We don’t know how many days he needs. He’s getting better.”

While the update confirms some progress, the lack of a definitive timeline has left fans concerned. Maresca has already confirmed James’ absence from key matches, and his availability for the busy festive period remains in doubt.

Chelsea will need to adapt quickly in James’ absence. The Blues are set to face Heidenheim in the Europa Conference League on November 28, followed by a Premier League clash against Aston Villa on December 1.

Maresca will likely continue to rely on Malo Gusto to fill the void left by James.
