Real Madrid: Vinicius Jr. Discusses Future Amid Reports of Record Saudi Offer

Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior has expressed his desire to sign a contract extension ‘as soon as possible’, dismissing rumours linking him with a shock switch to Saudi Arabia. 

Vinicius Jr., who won The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award in 2024, sees his current contract expire on 30th June 2027. The Brazilian is already in talks with Los Blancos over his contract renewal.

Saudi Arabia Reportedly Prepared to Give Vinicius Jr. a Record-Breaking Contract

In February, Spanish outlet MARCA claimed that the Saudi Pro League had stepped up their pursuit of Vinicius Jr. The Real Madrid No. 7 had reportedly been aware of Saudi interest since 2023, as he met with officials of the league, including Vice President Saad Al Lazeez, in Prague. He supposedly showed interest in the project they offered him.

Talks between the Public Investment Fund (PIF)-backed Saudi clubs and Vinicius Jr.’s entourage have been ongoing, with a mega five-year deal worth €1 billion (£830 million) on the table. The deal would also give Vinicius Jr. an ambassadorial role for the 2034 FIFA World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

The player, however, has maintained that he wishes to keep representing the reigning European champions.

Vinicius Jr. Is Calm About His Real Madrid Future

The 24-year-old reiterated his desire to stay on Monday, saying he was already at the best possible club.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Atletico Madrid, the Brazil international said:

I’m very calm because I have a contract until 2027 and let’s hope we can renew my contract as soon as possible. 

I’m happy here, playing with the best players in the world, the best coach, the best president [Florentino Perez], where everyone loves me. I couldn’t be anywhere better than here.

Since his switch from Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius Jr. has gradually developed into one of the best players in the world. He has delivered numerous match-winning performances, helping the club to the biggest of trophies.

So far, Vinicius Jr. has played 300 games for the club in all competitions, scoring 102 goals and providing 76 assists. He has won two UEFA Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles with the club, among other honours.
