Here’s our PSG Vs Atletico Madrid preview, prediction, team news and confirmed lineups ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash.

PSG Vs Atletico Madrid Preview

Paris Saint-Germain began their European campaign with victory over Girona. However, they have drawn both of their other games and desperately need a win on Wednesday to ensure they keep pace with those at the top end.

Things have been better on the domestic front, though. The French giants are unbeaten, winning eight and drawing two from their first ten games.

Currently six points clear at the top of Ligue 1, PSG are looking likely for yet another French title. However, the one they really want continues to elude them.

The Parisians have never won the Champions League, despite being one of the richest clubs on earth.

And standing in their way this week is an Atletico Madrid team that are notoriously hard to beat.

Diego Simeone’s men have failed to live up to that reputation so far, though. Beaten by Lille on home turf before a 4-0 humbling at Benfica, Atletico have been poor in Europe this season.

They did beat RB Leipzig 2-1 to get three points on the board, but are currently headed for elimination.

Atletico are third in La Liga as it stands, one point below rivals Real having played one more game.

Surprisingly, PSG and Atletico Madrid have never met in European competitions before, so both sides will be eager to draw first blood this week.

PSG Vs Aletico Madrid Team News

First-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was dropped for PSG by manager Luis Enrique at the weekend.

Metvei Safonov’s call-up and the return of Marco Asensio were massive calls, but both should keep their places for Wednesday.

Asensio’s return will probably see Ousmane Dembele shift back out to the right wing, with Bradley Barcola on the left.

Goncalo Ramos (ankle), Presnel Kimpembe (Achilles) and Lucas Hernandez (ACL) are the long-term absentees.

Atletico will be without Robin Le Normand (head), Marcos Llorente (thigh) and Cesar Azpilicueta (calf), with Thomas Lemar still a doubt.

Pablo Barrios returned from a muscle injury at the weekend and is back in contention, along with manager Diego’s son, Giuliano Simeone.

Also hoping for a start are Antoine Griezmann, Angel Correa and Alexander Sorloth. Julian Alvarez should start alongside Griezmann, despite scoring just once in his last eight away games.

PSG Vs Atletico Madrid Confirmed Lineups

PSG Lineup:

Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Neves; Dembele, Asensio, Barcola

Atletico Madrid Lineup:

Oblak; Simeone, Molina, Witsel, Lenglet, Galan; De Paul, Gallagher, Barrios; Alvarez, Griezmann

PSG Vs Atletico Madrid Prediction

Atletico’s ageing squad are seen by many to be past their prime, and few will expect them to beat PSG in Paris.

While Simeone is a tactical master, his side are not what they once were, and face a Parisian side full of young talent.

For that reason, we expect a home win for PSG.

Prediction: PSG 2-1 Atletico Madrid
