‘We’ve Overcome Liverpool’ – PSG Boss Luis Enrique Sends Stern Warning After Narrow First Leg Loss in Champions League Round of 16

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Luis Enrique has said his team outperformed Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16, adding the Parisians were ready for the return leg at Anfield.
Ligue 1 leaders PSG hosted Premier League frontrunners Liverpool at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, 5th March. The hosts threw the kitchen sink at the Reds, dispatching 27 shots throughout the game, with 10 of those landing on target.
Unfortunately for Les Parisiens, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was at the top of his powers and stopped everything that came his way. To make matters worse, Liverpool substitutes Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott combined in the 87th minute to win the game for the visitors.
Luis Enrique Believes PSG Are Ready for Liverpool Trip
PSG suffered a knockout blow right at the death on Wednesday, but Enrique is not focused on the negatives. Speaking to the press after the game, he welcomed the challenge of visiting Liverpool in six days’ time.
Speaking to TNT Sports, the former Barcelona coach said:
“My feelings right now…it’s difficult to think about the match in a positive way because I think we deserved to win, clearly. We created a lot of chances.
“I think it’s one of the best matches that we did in the Champions League this season.”
He added:
“When you think that the best player of Liverpool was their goalkeeper, Alisson, football is many times unfair and we have to accept that. But, we are ready to [go to] Liverpool!
“We don’t have anything to lose. I think we’ve overcome Liverpool. Liverpool is the best team in Europe and today they almost create one or two chances maximum and we created a lot. I feel proud of my players, my team, of the ers.”
PSG, led by Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembele, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia finished the game with an xG of 1.78. Liverpool, meanwhile, had 0.27 from their two shots (one on target). The hosts also missed three big chances, while the Merseysiders put away the only major opportunity they created on the night.
