PSG Champions League Win Will See Luis Enrique Equal Pep Guardiola’s Historic Record

On a pursuit to win their first European crown, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will meet Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night, May 31.
If PSG win in Munich, coach Luis Enrique will become only the second coach in history to win two Trebles — a record currently held by his countryman and mentor Pep Guardiola. Additionally, PSG will emerge as the first team since Celtic in 1966/67 to win a ‘true quadruple’.
What is the Treble in European Football?
Completing the Treble in European football means winning the domestic title, the domestic cup competition, and the European Cup in a single season. From the perspective of a team playing in the Premier League, it will be the EPL title, the FA Cup (not the EFL/League Cup), and the UEFA Champions League.
Throughout history, only nine managers have won the Treble in European football. Celtic coach Jock Stein was the first one to claim it in 1966/67, having guided the club to Scottish Football League, Scottish Cup, and the European Cup.
Pep Guardiola is the only manager in history to win two Trebles. The Spaniard won his first Treble with Barcelona in the 2008/09 season. His second one came at Manchester City at the end of the 2022/23 season. Guardiola is also the last manager to win the domestic title, cup, and the Champions League in a single season (2023).

Luis Enrique Will Match Pep Guardiola’s Record if PSG Win Champions League
Luis Enrique, who took charge of PSG last summer, is standing on the brink of a historic feat in European football. In the 2014/15 season, his Barcelona won LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League, winning the second Treble in their history. Tragedy struck soon after, and Enrique stepped away from football to be with his family. Now, he is on the brink of a historic feat with PSG, despite losing the club’s all-time top scorer, Kylian Mbappe, to a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

PSG Have Dominated All Competitions This Season
It has been a season to for PSG. In Ligue 1, the Parisians reigned supreme, claiming the title in style, finishing 19 points ahead of runners-up Marseille. In January, they beat Monaco 1-0 in the Trophee des Champions. Finally, last week, they completed the clean sweep in domestic football by beating Reims 3-0 in the Coupe de final.
In the Champions League, PSG humbled Arsenal in the semi-finals, claiming a 3-1 win on aggregate, setting a date with Inter at the Allianz Arena.
Luis Enrique Has Brought Cohesion to PSG
In the 2014/15 season, Barcelona were thoroughly dominant in all competitions. But many did not give Luis Enrique enough credit, thanks to the star power of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez-led Barcelona. This year, PSG do not have superstars. The team is the star, and Enrique is the man running the show.
If AI’s Champions League final prediction holds and PSG beat Inter at the Allianz, Enrique, on paper, will match Pep Guardiola’s two-Treble record. In our books, however, he would sur his esteemed mentor.
