PGA vs LIV ‘The Showdown’ Sees McIlroy and Scheffler Installed Favourites Over Koepka and DeChambeau

The PGA and LIV Golf tours are trying to move a step closer to ing forces in the coming years by putting on ‘The Showdown’ – which will see heavyweight PGA pairing Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy taking on Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau from the LIV tour in December.

Golf fans always have a bit of a lull at this time of the year, with the main PGA and LIV events over and, of course, all the Majors played between April and August.

However, there is something to look forward to this year as, in a bid to try and bolster relations, the PGA and LIV golf tours are putting on a match play event that will feature four of the biggest names on each tour.

Rory McIlroy and world golf number one Scottie Scheffler will represent the PGA Tour, while Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau will fly the flag for the breakaway Saudi-backed LIV tour. With the head-to-head team event taking place in December.

As the build-up continues the best golf betting sites in the UK have already priced up event being dubbed ‘The Showdown’ – and they are making McIlroy and Scheffler the odds-on favourites to win at 4/6 with Koepka and DeChambeau at 6/4.

You feel this would be based on Scheffler having another season to – winning the Masters and also a gold medal at the Paris Olympics in the summer. In total he won seven events in 2024 and ends the year as the FedEx Cup champ and world number one.

He’ll partner with McIlroy, who is ranked third in the world and has won twice on the tour this season – Dubai Classic and the Wells Fargo Championship – but also had several near misses with a second in the US Open, BMW PGA Championship and the Irish Open.

Two-time US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau and five-time Major winner Brooks Koepka ended up 8th and 5th respectively on the LIV Tour in 2024 – with Spanish big-hitter Jon Rahm the individual winner.

What Is ‘The Showdown’ PGA vs LIV Format?

The Showdown PGA vs LIV golf event will be played as a match play format, rather than stroke-play.

This means the two players in each team will compete against the other two on every hole. The winner of each hole will take a point for their team and the team with the most points after 18 holes will win ‘The Showdown’.
