Paul Merson backs Ange Postecoglou to stay at Spurs despite sitting 15th amid horrible form

Paul Merson believes Spurs should stick with Ange Postecoglou as manager for the foreseeable future despite a dismal run of form that has the club sitting 15th in the Premier League.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson explained Tottenham need to be careful when deciding Postecoglou‘s fate after making rash decisions to sack Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Nuno Espirito Santo in the past.
“We’ve seen what he (Postecoglou) did last season when he had a fit team and he got them flying and then they drifted away.
“Stick with Ange. If he goes now, they’re going to go with someone who’s got to come up and shut shop up, play 10 at the back, play counter-attacking football – the fans will go mad again.
“Give him a chance. Give him next year as well and I’m not saying that because I’m Arsenal and want them to lose every week.”
Spurs are eight points off the relegation zone and have lost nine of their last 11 league games, winning just once in that period – for a manager who repeatedly told the press he always wins a trophy in his second season, that’s worrying stuff.
To Postecoglou’s credit, Spurs are still in with a chance of winning the EFL Cup. The north Londoners are 1-0 up in their semi-final tie with Liverpool and as per the best football betting sites, they’re a general 5/1 chance to lift the trophy.

In fairness to the Aussie, Spurs are going through an incredible injury crisis that no manager would want. Teenagers like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall are having to start week in week out – talk about throwing them in the deep end.
The club’s record g Dominic Solanke is on the sidelines and won’t return until March, while business in the transfer window has been non-existent.
Spurs are still one of the favourites in the Europa League and there isn’t much to be positive about at the club right now, but giving Postecoglou until the end of the season at least feels like the smart move.
