Novak Djokovic has identified a new target in his final years in professional tennis and reveals being world number one is no longer the aim.

The Serbian tennis star is entering the latter stages of his career which has arguably made him the best player of all time – winning 24 Grand Slam titles.
However, Djokovic has now shifted his objectives and is no longer concerned about ranking as the world number one.
He currently sits fifth in the world, which is a considerable distance from top spot where he sat for over a staggering 400 weeks.
Despite his age, Djokovic is still putting in stellar performance and clinching impressive victories, most recently breaking the record for the most ATP Masters victories (411) after beating Camilo Ugo Carabelli at the Miami Open – meaning he is one of the favourites on UK betting sites.
This win puts Djokovic a touch nearer to claiming his 100th singles title, which he confirmed is now his main objective compare to the world number one ranking.
The Serbian said: “If it comes as a consequence of great results and titles that I win in a season, then that’s amazing. But that’s not my objective.
“My objective is to be able to play my best tennis at the Grand Slams and the tournaments where I participate. My schedule is revised, so obviously I’m not chasing ranking points.
“It’s different nowadays, maybe, from what it was a few years back (or) for most of my career, to be honest. I’m happy to win a Grand Slam and a big tournament rather than getting to number one. Right now that’s more important for me.”
Djokovic can also break another record if he maintains his high level, as only Roger Federer (103) and Jimmy Connors (109) have more major titles than the Serb.
Breaking this record is clearly on Djokovic’s mind, as he revealed that achieving this feat would be an ‘amazing’ accomplishment.
He said: “It would definitely be amazing to get to that record,” Djokovic added. “Connors is someone that I truly ire and respect. He’s always very ive of me in public, I’m thankful for that. It would be amazing.
“But again, it’s probably more difficult to achieve that nowadays for me than maybe it was some years ago. I’ll go step by step. I’ll see. I don’t know how long I’m going to compete for. But I’m still enjoying myself when I play well.”
