Doucoure Strikes Late To Snatch Victory For Toffees

Vying for a crucial three points in their quest to secure Champions League qualification, Nottingham Forest welcomed David Moyes and his Everton side to the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s were in third place in the English top-flight table heading into the match, ahead of the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle, while the Toffees were down in 15th.

It was a cagey first period with chances few and far between for both sides, but the best opportunities of the half came for Everton’s James Garner and Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi. Neither were able to convert, however.

Again, there was little to separate the sides in the second period. Iliman Ndiaye and Morgan Gibbs-White went close on a couple of occasions, and there were two penalty shouts, but the game looked to be heading towards a stalemate.

With both sides pushing for a winner, a costly mistake by Murillo allowed the visitors to break deep into injury time, and Abdoulaye Doucoure was on hand to net a last-gasp winner from Dwight McNeil’s through ball.

With the result, Forest remain in third place in the table, two points ahead of Manchester City and three points ahead of Aston Villa, while Everton climb up to 14th place, level on points with Manchester United.

Forest will look to bounce back a week on Monday when they take on Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur in North London, before returning to the capital for their FA Cup semi-final against Man City the following weekend.

The Toffees, meanwhile, face off against the Cityzens on Saturday in their Gameweek 33 fixture, and they follow that up with a trip to Stamford Bridge, where they’ll go head-to-head with Chelsea.
