Gerrard Top Of Gers Shortlist For Return To Ibrox

Next Rangers Manager - Insiders Say Gerrard Set For Ibrox Return
Steven Gerrard

Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard – who was in charge of the SPL club between 2018 and 2021 before he left to Aston Villa – is the favourite for the Ibrox job.

Gerrard was most recently head coach at Saudi side Al-Ettifaq, with his 18-month stint ending in late January.

During his time at Rangers, Gerrard won the SPL title in 2021 and remains the last manager to win the league with Rangers. During that season, the former Liverpool captain led Rangers to back-to-back derby victories over Celtic and became champions without losing a single game – scoring 102 points and only letting in 13 goals in the league.

Interim Boss Ferguson Has A Chance Of Retaining Top Job

Barry Ferguson

Barry Ferguson was a hero among Rangers fans during his playing career, winning 15 major trophies in two spells at the club.

He cut his teeth in management at Blackpool, Clyde, Kelty Hearts and Alloa but had been out of work for three years when he was put in charge of Rangers in February.

Within three weeks, Ferguson had given the club’s ers a memorable day when he won his first Old Firm game in charge of Rangers, winning 3-2 at Celtic Park.

Ferguson has also led the Gers to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, and as things stand the best betting sites in the UK have installed him as second favourite to be the next permanent Rangers manager.

Ex-Rangers Player In The Running To Become Manager Of Ibrox Club

Russell Martin

The the best football betting sites in the UK – have former Rangers defender Russell Martin as one of the top contenders for the job.

Martin had a brief spell on loan at Rangers in 2018 and is also being linked with a return to Ibrox because of his achievements as a manager.

He impressed in spells in charge of MK Dons and Swansea before leading Southampton to  promotion to the Premier League last year.

Martin was sacked by Southampton in December, but he still has a good reputation and his previous ties to Rangers could count in his favour.

Next Rangers Manager Betting Odds See Former Everton Boss In Contention

Sean Dyche

Having been sacked by Everton in early January, another name near the top of the next Rangers manager betting odds market is Sean Dyche.

Dyche had been under pressure at Goodison Park for much of his time at the Merseyside club, whom he ed back in 2023.

He only just avoided getting them relegated that season, when they finished 17th, while the 2023/24 campaign was a similar story when they ended up 15th after two points deductions.

After a poor start to this season, the Everton bosses finally called time on Dyche’s career at the Toffees on January 9th – just a few hours before they were due to play Peterborough in the FA Cup third round.

Prior to his time at Everton, Dyche was in charge at Watford and then made his name during a successful ten-year spell at Burnley between 2012 and 2022.

Commentary: sportscasting.com/uk spokesman Andy Newton reacted to our Rangers Manager Odds’ saying:

“Barry Ferguson took a big step toward getting the job on a full-time basis with that famous win at Celtic, but he is still pretty inexperienced as a manager.

“Being Rangers boss is one of the biggest jobs around and so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the club went for someone else.

“Steven Gerrard made history when he won Rangers’ first league title since 2011. They haven’t won the league since Gerrard left four years ago – so just as Celtic re-appointed Brendan Rodgers in 2023, could Rangers bring back a former manager to try to end their rivals’ dominance?
