“A few years ago, many thought with the mega bucks behind Newcastle they would be breaking into the top four of the Premier League and even challenging for the title. However, the promise of big transfer funds hasn’t really happened for current boss Eddie Howe and you feel the Magpies have hit a bit of a stale patch.
“With this in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Toon management look to start afresh at some point in the not too distant future, particularly if the Tynesiders lose the League Cup final to Liverpool later this month.
“Andoni Iraola is doing a brilliant job at Bournemouth and they want him to sign a new contract, but you have to think that he’ll move to a bigger club sooner rather than later.”
Brendan Rodgers Second Favourite To Be Next Newcastle Manager
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is also in contention to become the next Newcastle manager – if current head coach Eddie Howe is shown the door.
Rodgers is still at the helm at the heavyweight SPL side – in what is his second spell with Celtic. However, many football experts are suggesting the former Liverpool boss is keen on a return to the English top-flight and Newcastle could be a nice fit.
Of course, Rodgers has also had a spell at Leicester City, so knows the Premier League well. Plus, he led the Foxes to their first FA Cup title in 2021 with a 1-0 win over Chelsea.
He replaced Ange Postecoglou at Celtic in June 2023, g a three-year deal, and even though at the time he said he would be ‘guaranteed’ to see out his contract, a lot can change in the world of football management if the right offer comes along.
Rodgers guided Celtic to yet another SPL title in the 2023-24 season – seeing off old rivals Rangers into second.
