Nathan Aspinall has revealed that he believes Luke Littler could retire from darts ‘in about five years’ ahead of the Premier League Darts Play-Offs on Thursday.

Nathan Aspinall Makes Luke Littler Retirement Claim

Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price will all take to the stage at the O2 Arena for the Premier League Darts Play-Offs on Thursday, and ‘The Asp’ has made an interesting claim about ‘The Nuke’ ahead of the action.

Littler will kick off the action in the English capital against ‘The Iceman’ in the first semi-final at around 19:15, before Aspinall takes on world No. 1 ‘Cool Hand’ in the second semi-final around an hour later.

All four players reached the final stage of the Premier League after finishing in the top four of the regular phase’s league table and having already scooped up a minimum of £85,000 each, £275,000 is on offer for the winner.

Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, Aspinall, who could face Littler in the final, says that he believes the 18-year-old could retire in around five years’ time in favour of becoming an influencer.

Asked whether he believes ‘The Nuke’ will beat Phil Taylor’s record of 16 World Darts Championship wins, he said: “No. I think he’ll be off in about five years!

“He’s 18, isn’t he? He does a lot of YouTube and stuff like that. He’s mates with AngryGinge. I can see him going down that path, in my opinion.

“He’s already getting fed up of playing and travelling all the time, and he’s only been doing it for 12 months. So I don’t think he’ll be around 16 years, let alone winning 16 world titles. If he does, fair play to him – but I can’t see it.”

Littler Rubbishes Aspinall’s ‘Crazy’ Retirement Claims

Littler, looking to defend his Premier League crown this week, was quick to shut down Aspinall’s claims.

Asked about what he made of ‘The Asp’s comments, the reigning PDC World Champion said: “I know I’ve heard that, I don’t know where he’s got that from – don’t worry, I’ll be here in 10 years.

“It’s crazy to even think about retiring. If I win 16 world titles like Phil (Taylor), I’ll retire, but I’m not even thinking about retirement at the minute – the money is there to be won, especially the World Championship but not only that everything has gone up.

“It is all about what you’re feeling and I’m sure I’ll be here for a long time.”

Unsurprising given his dominance since bursting onto the scene 18 months ago, ‘The Nuke’ clearly isn’t in any rush to call a day on his darting career, with it still being in its infancy.

Aspinall’s comments may add fuel to the fire ahead of the Premier League finale however, and if both players are victorious in their respective semi-final fixtures, we could be in for a heated affair.
