See the reactions on social media to Myles Lewis-Skelly’ contentious red card from referee Michael Oliver during Arsenal’s game against Wolves.

Myles Lewis-Skelly Red Card Incident

The incident occurred towards the end of the first half when Arsenal were pressing for a breakthrough.

It stemmed from an Arsenal corner, which was dealt with comfortably by Wolves, who looked to counter. But before Matt Doherty could charge away, he was tripped by Lewis-Skelly in what seemed like a fairly innocuous foul.

However, much to the surprise of the Arsenal players, referee Michael Oliver dished out a red card, despite the foul occurring around 80 yards from goal.

On replay, it appeared to be a routine, if slightly cynical, tactical foul.

Even Wolves’ defender Santiago Bueno was caught on camera looking shocked by the call.

Oliver’s decision meant that Arsenal were forced to play with ten men for the remainder of the match, which altered the dynamic of the game.

However, in the 70th minute, Wolves were down a man of their own after Joao Gomes received his second yellow card of the match, levelling up the playing field.

This red card also added to Arsenal’s troubled history with Michael Oliver, as it marked the eighth time he had sent off an Arsenal player—more than any other club.

Fan Reactions to Lewis-Skelly Red Card

It’s fair to say Arsenal fans weren’t overly pleased with Oliver’s decision…

Other fans and pundits were equally perplexed, expressing their disbelief on social media.
