The details of Matheus Cunha’s release clause have been revealed as Manchester United eye a move for the Wolves talisman this summer.

Cunha is hot on United’s radar amid an impressive season at Molineux, tallying 14 goals and four assists in 28 Premier League appearances so far.

The 25-year-old recently extended his contract with Wolves until 2029 which features a release clause that a number of England’s top dogs are seeking to trigger.

According to various outlets, the Red Devils have held positive talks to sign the player – a target both Ruben Amorim and club executives want to bring to Old Trafford.

Matheus Cunha Release Clause

Matheus Cunha has a release clause of £62.5 million.

As mentioned, the Brazil international put pen to paper on a new deal in February which extended his stay at the club by two years.

He currently earns around £90,000 a week at Wolves and if United want to add him to their ranks next season a few outgoings are required to make the finances work.

Marcus Rashford and Antony are impressing on loan at Aston Villa and Real Betis respectively with both likely to depart the club on a permanent transfer while Jadon Sancho is also up for sale.

After impressing in during his early days at RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin, Cunha earned a €30 million move to Atletico Madrid in 2021 before ing Wolves initially on loan two years later.

Wolves made the move permanent that summer in another shrewd bit of business from the club who have earned substantial paydays from the sales of Matheus Nunes (£53m), Pedro Neto (£51m), Ruben Neves (£47m) and Max Kilman (£40m) since 2023.

Amorim has identified Cunha as his prime target to bolster the No 10 position in his 3-4-2-1 system to partner Bruno Fernandes and play behind the striker.

That striker could well be Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, who reportedly has a £30 million release clause in his contract if the club are relegated – which is all but confirmed.

Delap, 22, has impressed at Portman Road with 12 goals and two assists in the league under former United assistant Kieran McKenna who would likely offer the player the best of references.

United’s new-look attack is dependent on possessing a suitable budget but with a number of valuable assets to shift it looks more than likely at this point.
