The latest Alisson injury update has given Liverpool huge boost as the Brazilian keeper returned to training on Tuesday.

But the Reds’ No.1. shot-stopper appears to be closer to a return to action. On Tuesday, the club’s official media shared images of Alisson from the AXA Training Centre.

The 32-year-old was pictured in the changing rooms, covered in mud, suggesting he had taken an active part in training.

Although no return date has yet been confirmed, the images would indicate he is back in full goalkeeper training and can’t be far from a return.

Thankfully for Arne Slot, he has been able to rely on back-up keeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who has been excellent in Alisson’s absence.

Alisson Injury Update Suggests He Might Play Against Southampton

If Alisson is fit enough to play at the weekend, it raises an interesting dilemma for Arne Slot.

The Reds travel to Southampton on Saturday in the Premier League and may need to decide which keeper to start.

Although Alisson is clearly Liverpool’s first choice, he has not played for seven weeks. Slot could be tempted to continue with Kelleher a while longer, with the Irish international in such good form.

Kelleher’s consistency has been first-rate and may earn him a longer stay between Liverpool’s posts.

With no concerns about the ability of his backup, Alisson could be given longer to get back up to speed ahead of next week’s huge Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Equally, Slot may feel that the Brazilian needs minutes to be ready for Real’s visit to Anfield. If Alisson does make a return on Saturday, there will be few complaints from Reds fans.

But if Slot opts not to risk him, Kelleher has proven himself more than capable over the last seven games.

Aside from Alisson, Harvey Elliott was also pictured in full training on Tuesday, as he recovers from a fractured foot.

The England under-21s star picked up the injury on international duty in September, but could also be back in contention soon.
