The latest instalment of the Manchester derby takes place on Sunday evening to round off the weekend’s Premier League action, with Manchester United welcoming Manchester City to Old Trafford.

In action for the first time since returning from the international window, United fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening, which ended a four-game unbeaten run across all competitions.

Prior to the internationals, Ruben Amorim’s side had beaten Leicester and drawn against Arsenal in the league and overcame La Liga side Real Sociedad 5-2 on aggregate to book their spot in the Europa League quarter-finals.

At the time of writing, the Red Devils find themselves in a lowly 13th place in the English top-flight table, just three points ahead of Tottenham, Everton and West Ham, while they are seven points adrift of the top half.

City, meanwhile, are up in fifth place, just one point away from Chelsea in fourth place, and they head into Gameweek 31 unbeaten in three consecutive matches, most recently playing out a comfortable 2-0 win over Leicester.

Pep Guardiola’s side, unlike Amorim’s, are already out of Europe, having been eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid in the knockout play-off round, however they are into the final four of the FA Cup after beating Bournemouth 2-1 on the south coast last Sunday.

The Cityzens last faced off against their bitter rivals in mid-December, where Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo scored in the 88th and 90th minutes to snatch an unlikely 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

The Red Devils will have to make do without the services of Lisandro Martinez (knee), Diallo (ankle), Ayden Heaven (foot), Luke Shaw (calf) and Jonny Evans (lower back), while Mattijhs de Ligt is a doubt.

In more positive news, Amorim confirmed to reporters that Kobbie Mainoo may be fit to return in time for the derby, with the young midfielder missing out on the last two months of action due to a muscular concern.

City are without five key players for the trip to Old Trafford, with Rodri (knee), Nathan Ake (foot), Erling Haaland (ankle), John Stones (thigh) and Manuel Akanji (abductor) all missing out due to their respective injury concerns.

With Haaland absent, likely for the remainder of the league campaign, in-form forward Omar Marmoush should lead the line once again, as he looks to extend his goalscoring run in sky blue colours to four straight matches.

Manchester United vs Manchester City Prediction 3c1n72

The UK’s best football betting sites make Manchester City the 11/10 favourites to claim the bragging rights on Sunday, while a draw is priced at around 5/2 and a victory for the Red Devils is rated at 12/5.

Neither of the two have been consistently impressive this term, especially in recent months, and with so many injuries to key players in both camps, we at SportsCasting find this one to be a tough one to call.

Regardless, given that they head into the fixture off the back of two consecutive wins, and are unbeaten in three, we’re backing City to claim a narrow 2-1 triumph in United’s backyard.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-2 Manchester City
