The Manchester Utd vs Liverpool referee has been announced as Anthony Taylor. A decision of which has left ers of the Merseysiders absolutely furious.

Many took to X, formerly Twitter to vent their frustrations as Taylor is from Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester. Although, it is understood he is a fan of non-league Altrincham.

Nonetheless, it didn’t stop followers of Arne Slot’s side voice their frustrations at the Premier League‘s appointment of the 45-year-old official.

Sunday’s clash at Old Trafford will see Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn employed as Taylor’s assistants. Sam Barrott will act as fourth official with VAR duties falling to John Brooks and Harry Lennard (assistant).

The Manchester Utd vs Liverpool referee is almost certainly not a role for the faint-hearted. Anthony Taylor has come under fire several times in his career for questionable decisions.

In fact, Taylor has already felt the wrath of Chelsea ers and ex-Blue Thiago Silva this season. On MD1, he failed to award the west Londoners a penalty in their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Silva aimed a sly dig at Taylor after Mateo Kovacic appeared to handle in the box. The 39-year-old reacted to a social media post further displaying his frustrations.

Naturally, fans of Liverpool are questioning the decision to employ a Mancunian referee for such a vital clash. However, Anthony Taylor has only sent off one Reds player in his entire Premier League career.

On the other hand, Taylor has sent off three Manchester United players. All of whom were dismissed at Old Trafford. Anthony Martial in the 6-1 defeat to Tottenham was the first.

Paul Pogba was shown red against Liverpool in the 5-0 drubbing in 2021 with Casemiro being the most recent. He was dismissed in a goalless draw against Southampton two seasons ago.

Subsequently, the Premier League’s announcement of Anthony Taylor as the referee for Manchester Utd vs Liverpool brought about a series of ‘colourful’ reactions on X, formerly Twitter.

At the time of writing, United fans have remained relatively quiet on the appointment. In contrast, Reds fans were quick to blast the decision.
