Nathan Ake was the latest Manchester City star to be added to their already long injury list, with the Dutchman hooked at half time in the Cityzens’ FA Cup win over Plymouth.

Manchester City injury woes continue

It is safe to say that Manchester City are in the midst of an injury crisis as we enter the business end of the season and yet another star was ruled out on Saturday afternoon.

Although City were able to navigate a tricky FA Cup tie against Plymouth to advance to the quarter finals, Nathan Ake was hooked at half time with an apparent injury that could keep the defender out for an extended period.

A Nico O’Reilly double and a late Kevin De Bruyne tap in turned things around for City, who were just able to survive a huge upset despite Ake’s injury.

Speaking after the game, Pep Guardiola addressed the Ake knock with his initial assessment not looking good for City going forward.

“Now again we have central defenders out. I think we are going to miss Nathan.

“I’m so grateful to the club for bringing Vitor and Khusanov to the club otherwise we would not have any chance to qualify for the Champions League next season or fight for the FA Cup; we would have just Ruben.

“It’s a miracle they are here to help us because the problems we have, have happened all season.”

City have already lost John Stones and Abdukodir Khusanov available for selection.

Ake has played just 10 games in the Premier League this season so far with various injuries causing the Dutchman problems throughout the year.

Manchester City have a difficult run of fixtures coming up so Ake’s injury comes at the worst time for Guardiola, with Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Manchester United all coming up in the next month.
