Man Utd Miss Out on £300,000 After Chelsea’s Conference League Win Over Real Betis

The 2024-25 season ended on the worst possible note for Manchester United, as Chelsea cost them a sizable bonus after beating Real Betis in the UEFA Europa Conference League final at Wroclaw.
Enzo Maresca’s Blues came from behind to claim a 4-1 victory over the LaLiga outfit on Wednesday night, May 28. In the ninth minute, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli fired Betis into a shock lead over the Premier League giants.
The Pensioners piled men forward in search of the equaliser, but went into the second half trailing.
They finally got their leveller in the 65th minute, as Enzo Fernandez headed the ball into the back of the net. Nicolas Jackson scored the second goal five minutes later to make it 2-1.
Man Utd loanee Jadon Sancho made it 3-1 in the 83rd minute before Moises Caicedo completed the rout in injury time. With the victory, Chelsea have become the first team in history to win the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Chelsea’s Conference League Win Over Real Betis Cost Man Utd £300,000
Chelsea’s win over Real Betis in the UEFA Europa Conference League not only showed Man Utd — one of the other of the ‘Big Six’ — in even worse light, but also cost them a massive performance bonus.
According to reports from Spain, Man Utd would have received a sizable cash bonus of £300,000 if Betis had beaten Chelsea in Wednesday’s Europa Conference League final. It would have come through the performance clause in Antony’s contract, who ed the Spanish side from Man Utd on loan in January 2025.

As part of Antony’s loan, the two teams agreed on a few clauses and associated bonuses, one of which was Betis paying £300,000 to the Red Devils if they won the Conference League. Antony had to play at least 50% of Betis’ Conference League games leading up to the final. The Brazilian exceeded that quota, featuring in 9 games, playing 768 minutes, and chipping in with 4 goals and 3 assists. However, he could not help the Spanish outfit in the final, cutting a frustrated figure as Chelsea took control of the game in the second half.
Man Utd Could Still Earn Big Through Antony
Although Chelsea denied Man Utd a cash injection with their Conference League win over Betis, Antony could still help his parent club rake in millions in transfer fees. After scoring just once in 14 appearances for Man Utd in the first half of the 2024-25 campaign, Antony reinvented himself at Real Betis, emerging as one of their best players.
Following his switch to Spain in late January, Antony played 26 games for Betis, scoring 9 goals and claiming 5 assists. According to reports, Betis are eager to make Antony’s stay permanent, but they will have to fend off competition from Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad, and Juventus to secure his services.
Man Utd, on the other hand, are unlikely to make Antony honour his contract, which runs until June 2027. After losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur and finishing 15th in the Premier League, they need to raise funds to sign players suited to Ruben Amorim’s system. Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo is one of Manchester United’s key transfer targets for the summer.
