Man United Player Ratings vs Lyon: Woeful Onana Scores 2/10 As Devils Settle for 2-2 Europa League Draw

French outfit Olympique Lyon held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final on Thursday night, April 10. us as we take a quick look at the Man United player ratings vs Lyon.
Lyon 2-2 Manchester United: UEFA Europa League Quarter-Final Match Summary
Manchester United created their first goal-scoring opportunity in the 23rd minute. Alejandro Garnacho dashed down the right-inside channel, all the way to the byline, before pulling the ball back for his captain Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese, lurking inside the box, hit it first time, but it took a deflection off Moussa Niakhate to go behind for a corner.
Casemiro attacked a floater inside the box the following minute, going for goal with an acrobatic overhead kick. The Brazilian kept it on target but could not trouble Lucas Perri.
In the 25th minute, Lyon won a free-kick on the right edge of the final third. Thiago Almada floated the ball into the crowded box, prompting Niakhate and Tagliafico to attack it. Neither Lyon player, however, managed to make with the ball, but it ended up in the back of the net, courtesy of a woeful Andre Onana error. The goalkeeper, whom Lyon midfielder Nemanja Matic called “one of the worst” goalkeepers in Man United history, misjudged the delivery, mistimed his lunge, and saw the ball nestle into the bottom-right corner.
Can't believe Lyon fans have been booing Onana the whole night. He has been their best player.

Man United, however, restored parity just before the break (45+5′), as Leny Yoro superbly guided Manuel Ugarte’s outside-the-box effort into the Lyon goal.
Second Onana Howler Costs United the Win
Man United and Lyon traded blows all through the second half before Joshua Zirkzee headed in Fernandes’ perfectly measured dinked cross at the back post. United looked confident to seal the win, but another Onana howler spoiled their party. In the fifth minute of injury time, Georges Mikautadze dispatched a shot straight at Onana. The goalkeeper stopped it but pushed it right back into the danger zone, allowing Rayan Cherki to apply a close-range finish.
Getting rid of De Gea for Onana was the biggest mistake we ever did as a club. We can't keep on pretending. pic.twitter.com/0NLYTChMac

With the summary out of the way, let’s check out the complete Man United player ratings vs Lyon.
Man United Player Ratings vs Lyon – UEFA Europa League
Andre Onana (2/10):
After Nemanja Matic’s pre-match remarks, Andre Onana should have been doubly determined to deliver a memorable performance. It turned out to be memorable, of course, but for all the wrong reasons. Had it not been for his woeful mistakes, Man United would have been in a great position heading into the Europa League second leg.
🚨 Nemanja Matic: “Onana said they’re way better than us? When you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United history, you need to take care what you’re talking about”.
“If it was Van der Sar, Schmeichel or de Gea saying that, ok… but Onana, he’s one of the worst”. pic.twitter.com/Tg55gVkjfa

Noussair Mazraoui (6/10):
It was Noussair Mazraoui’s poor challenge on Nicolas Tagliafico that gave Lyon the first-half free-kick. He was also mediocre at best at the back, struggling to keep up with Thiago Almada.
Harry Maguire (6/10):
Not the best day in the office for Harry Maguire. Did not carry his usual aerial threat from set-pieces.
Leny Yoro (8/10):
The French centre back scored his first Manchester United goal against Lyon, that, too, in excellent fashion. Also made multiple runs forward, putting pressure on Lyon defenders.
Diogo Dalot (7/10):
Carried the ball well, completing three dribbles over the 90 minutes. Also delivered two accurate balls and slipped seven es into the final third.
Manuel Ugarte (6.5/10):
Manuel Ugarte had an assist to his name, but it was undoubtedly down to Yoro’s brilliance. The assist aside, Ugarte did not do much. He won two tackles, lost four of six ground duels, and committed three fouls.
Casemiro (6/10):
The acrobatic first-half shot was the highlight of Casemiro’s showing against Lyon. He was dribbled past a whopping six times and lost seven of eight ground duels.

Patrick Dorgu (7/10):
The left wingback put in a good shift against Lyon, creating a big chance for Rasmus Hojlund. He also won both his aerial duels, drew two fouls, and delivered two accurate crosses.
Alejandro Garnacho (6/10):
Showed plenty of drive but lacked the final product. He also lost possession four times and misplaced three of four crosses.
Bruno Fernandes (7.5/10):
Captain Bruno Fernandes cut a frustrated figure for most of the night, but delivered a gem of a cross to find Joshua Zirkzee for the equalizer. He also created three chances, made three recoveries, and won three ground duels.
Rasmus Hojlund (5/10):
Another disappointing showing from Rasmus Hojlund. His only effort on target was a soft one, causing Lucas Perri no discomfort whatsoever. He also lost all three of his ground duels and committed a foul.
Get Hojlund sold man, I’m tired

Substitutes
Joshua Zirkzee (63′) (7/10): Zirkzee was a marked improvement over Rasmus Hojlund. Took his goal superbly.
Mason Mount (72′) (6/10): Had a couple of good touches.
Victor Lindelof (83′) and Kobbie Mainoo (83′): No impact.
