This Saturday’s big Newbury Group one race looks a crackerjack of a renewal with last year’s 2000 Guineas first and second, Rosallion and Notable Speech, expected entries. You can see the full 2025 Lockinge Stakes runners below, plus the key trends and stats that will help you find the best profiles based on past winners.

St James’s Palace Stakes Winner Rosallion Heads Lockinge Stakes Runners

We’ve not seen the Richard Hannon-trained Rosallion in action since landing the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last June (watch below).

The Blue Point colt has had a few setbacks, but after almost a year away from the track is making his horse racing return this Saturday in the Group One Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

He’ll head to the race having also been runner-up in the 2024 2000 Guineas and as a three-time Group One winner having also landed the Irish 2000 Guineas last year.

This will be Rosallion’s second run at Newbury too – having won at the Berkshire track on debut in June 2023 over 6 1/2f- while he’ll also be hoping to give the Hannon yard their sixth Lockinge Stakes, with their most recent Night Of Thunder in 2015.

Despite his time away from the track, the best horse racing betting sites in the UK make Rosallion the one to beat as he looks for his sixth career win.

Ryan Moore Booked To Ride Dancing Gemini In Lockinge

One of the main threats to Rosallion, according to the best betting sites, is the Roger Teal-trained Dancing Gemini.

Last year’s Epsom Derby 6th has also had the benefit of two runs this season – winning both times.

Including when landing the Group Two bet365 Mile at Sandown last month (watch below).

The icing on the cake for his backers is that in-form jockey Ryan Moore has been booked to ride – he’ll get the leg-up on Dancing Gemini for the first time.

Godolphin Eye Tenth Lockinge Stakes Win With Notable Speech

The ‘boys in blue’ of Godolphin have been a force to fear in the Lockinge Stakes over the years – they’ve racked up nine wins in total

They got off and running back in 1998, 1999 and 2000 with a trio of wins from Cape Cross, Fly To The Stars and Aljabr – while their most recent win in the race was in 2023 with Modern Games.

They try again with Notable Speech in 2025, who will be another key Lockinge Stakes runner for anyone looking away from Rosallion and Dancing Gemini.

Trainer Charlie Appleby has already landed both the 1000 and 2000 Guineas this season and he easily add the Lockinge with Notable Speech – his 2024 2000 Guineas hero.

Since that 2000 Guineas win, the horse has since been slammed by Rosallion in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot – but, on a plus, bounced back to win the Group One Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood in July (watch below).

His up-and-down profile makes him a risky option – but on his day he’s a classy sort that can’t be ruled out and has gone well fresh in the past.
