Newly promoted Leicester City have confirmed the departure of first team manager Steve Cooper following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the King Power Stadium.
Just five months after being appointed Leicester City manager on a three-year deal following the departure of Enzo Maresca for Chelsea, Steve Cooper has been sacked from his role as first team manager at the King Power Stadium.
It comes following a poor spell of form for the Foxes, who are winless in five successive matches across all competitions. His final game in charge was a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
Cooper led the 2015/16 Premier League champions to just two victories across their opening 12 league matches this term, along with four draws and six defeats, a return that sees them occupy 16th place in the table.
The Welshman becomes just the second managerial casualty in the English top-flight this season, after Manchester United parted ways with Erik ten Hag towards the end of October.
Leicester City Confirm Steve Cooper Sacking
The East Midlands club confirmed the departure of Cooper, alongside assistant manager Alan Tate and first team coach and analyst Steve Rands, in a statement on Sunday.
“Leicester City Football Club has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect,” the statement read.
“Assistant Manager Alan Tate and First Team Coach and Analyst Steve Rands have also left the Club. Steve, Alan and Steve depart with our thanks for their contribution during their time with the Club and with our best wishes for the future.
“Men’s First Team training will be overseen by First Team Coach Ben Dawson, ed by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, as the Club begins the process of appointing a new manager, which we hope to conclude as soon as possible.”
According to SportsCasting traders, former Manchester United, Everton and West Ham boss David Moyes is the favourite to take over in the next Leicester City manager odds market.
