Leeds United regained top spot in the Championship in emphatic style with a thumping 4-0 victory against Bristol City at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side completely dominated proceedings, ing 23 shots to Bristol’s three across 90 minutes.

They took the lead just after 20 minutes when Japanese midfielder Ao Tanaka found the net with a composed, first-time effort.

Despite their dominance, it remained 1-0 at the break, with Bristol keeper Max O’Leary making eight saves on the night to prevent an even heavier defeat for his side.

Leeds doubled their advantage eventually, six minutes into the second half. Wilfried Gnonto slotted home a second for the Whites after Joel Piroe’s excellent .

Junior Firpo then crossed low for Largie Ramazani to make it three, before the Belgian added another in stoppage time to wrap up a comprehensive victory for Leeds United.

The result moves Leeds back to the summit of the EFL Championship table.

Leeds United were promoted with several games to spare, but will need to match or better Burnley’s result on the final day to secure the title.

Bristol City, meanwhile, remain in the playoff places by a single point. The Robins have their destiny in their own hands, but with just a point between them in fifth and Middlesbrough in ninth, they’ll almost certainly need a win on the final day to stay in the top six.

The final round of fixtures sees Leeds United make the long trip south to take on Plymouth Argyle. The Pilgrims are not mathematically relegated but sit three points from safety with a significantly worse goal difference.

Bristol City host another side in serious relegation trouble, with Preston North End’s late-season collapse leaving them on the brink.

Should Bristol win while Hull City and Luton Town also pick up results, Preston would be relegated along with Plymouth and already-relegated Cardiff City.
