Lee Carsley National Anthem Saga Causes Stir Online

On Friday night, England interim manager Lee Carsely itted to the media that he will not be singing the British national anthem on Saturday.

The Three Lions head to Dublin to take on the Republic of Ireland, but Carsley won’t be singing the national anthem before the game.

His decision has caused plenty of stir online, but Carlsey says he wants to “focus on the football” ahead of England’s clash with Ireland.

Speaking to the media, Carsley said: “This is something that I always struggled with when I was playing for Ireland.

“The gap between your warm-up, your coming on to the pitch and the delay with the anthems. So it’s something that I have never done.

“I was always really focused on the game and my first actions of the game. I really found that in that period I was wary about my mind wandering off and I was really focused on the football and I have taken that into coaching.“

Plenty have showed their for Lee Carsley, with many saying it shouldn’t matter if he sings the national anthem or not.

Some even likened the situation to former England managers such as Fabio Capello who didn’t sing it either.

Lee Carsley is hired to manage England’s football team with smart selections, tactics and a dash of adventure. He is not entered in ‘ The Masked Singer’. Nobody should care whether he belts out the national anthem if he gets a tune out of some gifted players.

Lee Carsley's right to decide whether to sing the national anthem is more important than whether he actually does it.
Were Eriksson and Capello morally obliged to sing it? Of course not.
It's a personal choice and has no great significance.

Lee Carsley Played 40 Times For Ireland

Despite being born and raised in Birmingham, Carsley represented Saturday’s opponents at international level during his playing days.

Making 40 appearances, Carsley was a popular figure in the Republic of Ireland squad from 1997-2008. The England interim boss said he didn’t sing the national anthem as a player, and he won’t sing it as a manager either.
