Joseph Parker turned professional back in July 2012 when he was just 20-years-old. Since then, the Australasian boxing star has had a meteoric rise to the upper echelons of the heavyweight division.
The 33-year-old quickly began fighting on a regular basis, fighting 15 times in his first three full years as a professional. Parker’s record hit 18-0 by January 2016, before a huge step up in his 19th fight against Carlos Takam.
Takam only had one defeat on his record at the time to Alexander Povetkin and would of course go on to challenge Anthony Joshua for the unified world heavyweight titles a few years later. Although it was a big step up, Parker won the fight convincingly via unanimous decision.
The New Zealander then had two emphatic knockouts before challenging for world honours for the very first time in his 22nd fight. Parker faces unbeaten Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr, outpointing the awkward fighter to win the WBO World Heavyweight Title.
Parker retained his world title belt twice against Razvan Cojanu and Hughie Fury, before then suffering the first defeat of his career to Anthony Joshua in world title unification battle. ‘AJ’ beat Parker via unanimous decision, ripping Parker’s belt away in the process.
Parker’s first defeat was followed by his second, as he was defeated by Britain’s Derek Chisora and one against fellow New Zealander Junior Fa.
