Having advanced to the French Open last 16, Britain’s ‘formidable’ Jack Draper has been backed to win several major titles in the future by former world No. 1 John McEnroe.

Jack Draper is into the second week of the French Open, with Alexander Bublik awaiting in the last 16 on Monday.

The British No. 1, who is looking to advance to the quarter-finals of a major tournament for just the second time in his career, has beaten Mattia Bellucci, Gael Monfils and Joao Fonseca thus far in Paris.

His most recent outing came against the latter on Saturday, whom he comfortably defeated in straight sets.

Former world No. 1 and seven-time singles Grand Slam champion John McEnroe has reacted to the 23-year-old’s excellent performances in so far, claiming that this is ‘the best’ he’s ever seen the youngster play.

“Jack’s locked in beautifully,” McEnroe told TNT Sports on Monday morning.

“This is the best I’ve ever seen Jack play. It’s incredible how much he’s improved in my book the last year or so, even on clay. I mean, he looks great on clay, he’s formidable, man.

“I think he’s going to win majors, not major, majors. Wimbledon, he’s going to go in at worst as like the fourth favourite, at worst.

“He’s certainly a guy that’s going to, to me, probably more likely than any other guys I mentioned, win majors. I don’t think he’s quite ready yet here, but he’s getting awfully close.

“I suspect that, you know, he’s been well-schooled about what to expect, I mean, any player is really, when you play Bublik, what the hell is going to happen? So, it makes it interesting, but I see him winning fairly comfortably.”

Having advanced to the round of 16, Draper will take home a minimum of €265,000 in French Open prize money.

That figure will increase to a stunning €440,000 if he is able to overcome Bublik on Monday afternoon. The overall champion at Roland-Garros will receive a whopping €2,550,000, while the runner-up earns €1,275,000.

Could Draper Win The French Open? x3m52

Draper is in fine form, but can he go all the way in Paris and win his first-ever Grand Slam?

The bookmakers currently have him at fourth favourite to win the title, with Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic ahead of him in the betting market heading into the second week of the tournament.

If Draper is successful against Bublik, world No. 1 and his former doubles partner Sinner likely awaits in the quarter-finals.

This week marks the 52nd consecutive week that Sinner has topped the ATP Rankings – just the fifth player in history to achieve the feat – therefore it’ll take a seriously special performance from the Brit to advance to the final four.

Nevertheless, if he is successful against the Italian, he will likely face Alexander Zverev or Djokovic in the semis.

Spanish sensation Alcaraz, who faces Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, can only meet Draper in the final.
