The Joe Joyce next fight sees the popular British heavyweight take on Filip Hrgovic on April 5th in what is being deemed a ‘must-win’ fight for ‘The Juggernaut’.

Joe Joyce Next Fight: Should ‘The Juggernaut’ Retire After Latest Defeat?

Joe Joyce is certainly a man well known to the British boxing public. Joyce is of course an Olympic Silver Medallist, as well as having competed in some huge heavyweight clashes in the professional ranks.

‘The Juggernaut’ turns pro a lot later than most boxers, making his debut back in October 2017 at the age of 32. Given how late he turned over, Joyce was fast-tracked through the ranks right up to fringe world level where he has been campaigning for the last few years.

Joe Joyce’s record now stands at 16-4 with 15 KO’s. Although still an impressive resumé, Joyce has lost four of his last five fights and has looked well past his best of late. That being said, he could still be a problem for a lot of top heavyweights in the world.

In regards to the Joe Joyce next fight, there has been no official announcement. Joyce’s promoter Frank Warren has itted he wants to see the 39-year-old hang up his gloves for good after suffering his latest defeat to Filip Hrgovic on April 5th.

Going into the Hrgovic contest, the best UK boxing betting sites did have ‘The Juggernaut’ as the underdog, but he has looked a shell of himself of late.

His back-to-back stoppage defeats by Zhilei Zhang in 2023 and his two defeats by Derek Chisora and Filip Hrgovic in his last two fight could mean the end is near for Joyce.

He has had a great career and came very close to fighting for a world heavyweight title, but has just fallen short. If he does hang his gloves up, boxing fans will be pleased for Joyce. He could of course fight on, but not too many fans want to see that if truth be told.

Could Joe Joyce Fight For A World Heavyweight Title In 2026 If He Fights On?

If he continues fighting and Joe Joyce’s next fight ends in triumph, he could well put a run of victories together to get him back in world title contention.

That being said this seems highly unlikely, given how Joyce has performed of late. Filip Hrgovic and Derek Chisora themselves aren’t anywhere near a world title fight, yet both beat ‘The Juggernaut’.

However, if the Englishman can somehow put together a run of three or four stellar victories, he could well be in a decent position by the back end of 2026 for a world title shot. That being said this seems highly improbable.

At 39-years-old and having looked a complete shell of himself these past few fights, retirement seems like the best option for Joe Joyce. If he does fight on, maybe dropping down a level and competing against more domestic opponents could be an option.

He does of course have a win over Daniel Dubois, who holds the IBF World Heavyweight Title. A fight against him has a narrative, but the general consensus now is that Dubois would run through Joyce with ease in super quick fashion.

The best UK online bookmakers would certainly be giving huge odds on Joe Joyce to become world heavyweight champion at this state. However, stranger things have happened in boxing.
