It took Joe Cullen an incredible 40 darts to close out a leg against Thibault Tricole in the second round of the Austrian Darts Open.

After six visits to the oche and 18 darts, Cullen left himself 32 on his favourite double 16 to close out the leg and take a 5-1 lead over Tricole.

From that point onwards, it took over four minutes for the leg to finish as Cullen and Tricole missed a combined 42 darts at the outer ring.

Finally, on his 14th visit, Cullen nailed double 1 with his 40th dart of the leg to bring the embarrassment to an end and the pair shared a light-hearted fist bump while laughing it off.

As many of us know, the madhouse is no joke and it took another two unfortunate victims – going to show that even the most talented players in the world are just as vulnerable as amateurs.

‘The Rockstar’ advanced to the third round with a 6-2 win and he’ll take on Damon Heta next.

Darts fans branded the fiasco the ‘worst leg in history,’ leading the commentator to state: “That is a magnificent leg of darts, for all the wrong reasons.”

Cullen took to social media after the match, joking he should report the PDC’s video post and claiming the leg had the same value as a nine-darter.

“It was one of those normally when you’re stood behind, you get a feeling the other guy will hit it. But I thought he has no chance of hitting it and I knew I had no chance either,” Cullen said.

“At one point I said shall we flip a coin! I don’t think I would have been as jovial if I was on the losing end of it.

“At any standard that just proves whether it be professional, pub darts or youth darts that leg is still in there for somebody.”
