Jessica Pegula Praises Tennis Star Before Emma Raducanu Clash

Pegula made her way to the Miami Open Round of 16 after beating Bernarda Pera, Anna Kalinskaya and Marta Kostyuk in the opening three rounds.

She will now face British star, Emma Raducanu, who is on vengeance mission after a tough time in tennis across recent months.

However, Pegula opted to divert her focus in the press conference leading up to her match against Raducanu, praising her American doubles partner – Ashlyn Krueger.

The two have played together in the doubles scene and Pegula was actually forced to withdraw from their doubles match at the Miami Open Round of 16 through injury.

Pegula spoke about her fellow US countryman, saying:  “She is a big hitter, big baseliner. Moves really well for being so tall, good court sense, good hands at the net.

“Great serve, good return. She has so much going for her. I think she is definitely going to be a really tough player to beat this year.

“I think she is one of the young ones who we are going to see break through that little range that she is in. I am not really too surprised [she has risen up the rankings]. She has been playing some good tennis.”

Krueger is currently ranked 40th in the overall WTA standings, which is the highest she has ever been since debuting in professional tennis.

She is a powerful player, hitting some huge top speeds and is also a standout due to her 6ft1in frame that has been a major advantage on the court so far.

Despite this, the 20-year-old was eliminated from the Miami Open by World No. 9, Qinwen Zhang and became the fourth American female to leave the competition.

Krueger will be there to her doubles partner and according to UK betting sites,  Pegula is the favourite to win the Miami Open RO16 clash against Raducanu.
